考研英語大綱要求考生掌握5500個單詞，乍一聽感覺很嚇人，但是仔細一想其實就不必擔心，其中有很多是我們之前可以熟練掌握的詞匯，應該將其大膽的排除，否則后期就會占用你的很多寶貴時間，剩下的時間就可以用來重點復習2016考研英語核心詞匯啦。

★ plead

v.懇求，請求；為……辯護；提出……為理由

【例1】So said Steny Hoyer, the Democratic majority leader in the House of Representatives, in an article on Friday morning that
pleaded for passage of the $700 billion bail-out plan.美國眾議院多數黨（民主黨）領袖救援方案的文章里也是這樣講的。

【例2】They employed the best lawyer they could get to plead their case.他們聘請了能請到的最好的律師為他們辯護。

【構詞】plead=plea=please（取悅，使高興）→請求，懇求

【同義替換】beg, implore, entreat

【派生】pleadingly ad.懇求地；乞求地 pleadings n.（原告的）訴狀；（被告的）答辯狀

【真題】 “Dare to be different, please don’t smoke!” pleads one billboard campaign aimed at reducing smoking among teenagers—teenagers, who desire nothing more than fitting in.一場旨在減少年輕人——最渴望融入的年輕人吸煙的運動在廣告牌上寫道：“敢于不同，請勿吸煙！”

★ shelter

n.掩蔽處；掩蔽，保護

v.掩蔽，躲避，庇護

【例1】The trading is fairly easy to process when it is sheltered by a government guarantee.有政府擔保的時候，交易的進行會相當容易。

【例2】The high fence gives/affords (us) some shelter from the wind.這道高柵欄（給我們）擋住了風。

【同義替換】dwelling, asylum, protection

【派生】sheltered a.（指地方）可避風、雨等的

★ sympathy

n.同情，同情心；贊同，同感；慰問

【例1】On some issues, Russia gets more sympathy.在一些問題上，俄羅斯獲得了更多的同情。

【例2】Shares of emerging-market banks have plunged in sympathy with their Western peers.新興市場的銀行股價也與其西方股票一樣慘遭暴跌。

【構詞】sym-（共同，相同）+path（感情）+-y→同情

【同義替換】compassion sensitivity, commiseration

【派生】sympathize v.表示同情，贊同 sympathetic a.同情的

【真題】Perhaps selection for the caring professions, especially medicine, could be made less by good grades in chemistry and more by such considerations as sensitivity and sympathy.也許護理從業者——特別是醫療護理人員——的選擇應少注重化學成績而多關注他們是否敏感、是否有同情心。

背單詞的時候，有一種情況要特別注意一下，那就是熟詞生義，很多司空見慣的單詞往往會考查它們的第二含義。縱觀歷年真題會發現，這種單詞考查方式往往是出題者的偏愛，考生要給予重點關注。
