古老倫敦地鐵為何從來沒信號

有一條非常引人注目的新聞：中國的某電訊設備公司，出資5000萬英鎊免費為倫敦地鐵提供手機網絡的覆蓋。

(Chinese technology company Huawei has volunteered ￡50million to help bring mobile signal to London’s Underground。)

但是英國政府卻謝絕了這一個誘人的大禮，那到底是什么原因讓英國政府不吃這已經砸在自己身上的大餡餅呢?

倫敦地鐵是世界上最古老的地鐵，早在1863年便已經開通。

(The London Underground is the oldest underground railway in the world, with the first section being opened in 1863.)

去過英國的國人都會感嘆倫敦地鐵的破舊，車廂老舊，沒有空調，沒有信號打不了手機。也正是這樣一個傳統的倫敦地鐵，反映出了英國人對于地鐵，對于地鐵的公共環境一種執著的態度。

GoodMobilePhones.co.uk針對是否要在地鐵覆蓋手機網絡做過一次民意調查，調查訪問了1094名倫敦群眾，結果發現76%的受訪者反對這樣一個提案。

(A survey carried out by GoodMobilePhones.co.uk polled 1,094 Londoners to find out how they felt towards the plans and found that 76% were against the scheme。)

其中，14%的民眾說，不想在地鐵里面聽到別人吵吵嚷嚷的煲手機。

(14% said that they didn’t want to have to listen to other people’s inane chatter on the tube。)

看來，英國的民眾更喜歡一個安靜的地鐵環境，而不是一個充斥著手機鈴聲和講電話聲音的地鐵。英國地鐵除了表面看到的設施比較老舊之外，最大的一個特色便是安靜。倫敦地鐵高峰期，同樣也是人頭攢動，完全不亞于上海、北京。但是，英國的地鐵里面除了聽到機器運轉的嗡鳴聲之外，連人們的的交談聲都很少聽到。最為常見的現象就是人手一份報紙;或者帶了書籍一路閱讀;或者是聽音樂，或者是安安靜靜的閱讀英國地鐵中“地鐵詩歌”，這也成了英國地鐵的一道風景線，乘坐地鐵的同時也在受詩歌的熏陶。

地鐵詩歌始于1986年。該項目是美國作家Judith Chernaik創造的作品，目的是讓倫敦地鐵的大量乘客都能成為詩歌的讀者。

(Poems on the Underground was launched in 1986. The programme was the brainchild of American writer Judith Chernaik, whose aim was to bring poetry to the wide ranging audience of passengers on the London Underground。)

早在幾年前，中國的一部分古詩文就被配上英文翻譯展示在了倫敦的地鐵里，為安安靜靜的倫敦地鐵增添了別樣的閱讀樂趣。
