常規單詞積累一定要集中在2016考研英語復習的前期，否則后面無論閱讀復習還是翻譯復習的開展都會有困難。同時，考研英語單詞記憶不能只記中文釋義，要掌握其常見用法，固定搭配，并且在能力范圍內利用詞根觸類旁通。

★ ancestor

n.祖宗，祖先;原型，先驅

【例1】No one knows what ancient savage ancestor of ours first begin to make use of fire.沒有人知道我們的哪個古代原始祖先最早開始使用火。

【例1】The prisoner made a plea for mercy.囚犯懇求寬恕。

【例2】He refused to contribute, on the plea that he couldn’t afford it.他借口無能為力，拒不捐獻。

★ abuse

v.濫用;辱罵;詆毀

n.濫用;惡習;弊端

【例1】They talked about how the uses and abuses of figures to prove things in politics.他們談到人們如何在政治問題上使用及濫用數字來混淆視聽。

【例2】She attacked him with a torrent of abuse.她用連珠炮似的謾罵來攻擊他。

【例3】And every developed or semi-developed country in the world has trouble with orphans and homeless children, with some form of juvenile delinquency, with child abuse, with child labor issues.世界上每一個發達或半發達國家都存在著孤兒、流浪兒、青少年犯罪、兒童受虐、童工等麻煩問題。

【例1】He wanted to command nature for the service and welfare of man.他想以掌握自然來服務并造福人類。

【例2】Alongside laboratory work, students are required to gain a command of their research area by reading journal articles found from literature searches using the vast of scientific and medical library resources on the web.隨著實驗工作的進行，學生必須閱讀從網絡上各種不同科學及醫學圖書館文獻資源中查詢到的期刊論文，以熟悉他們的研究領域。

【構詞】com-(加強)+mand(命令)→命令，指令

【同義替換】order, instruct, instruction

【派生】commander n.司令官，指揮官 commanding a.指揮的;領先的;威嚴的;制高的
