常規單詞積累一定要集中在2016考研英語復習的前期，否則到了復習后期無論是考研英語閱讀的復習還是翻譯的復習，都會遇到困難。同時，單詞記憶不能只記中文釋義，要掌握其常見用法、固定搭配，并且在能力范圍內利用詞根觸類旁通。考研英語對于詞匯的考查主要體現在考生“同義替換”的能力上，也就是考查考生對于語言多樣性的把握，所以考生在背單詞的時候一定要掌握單詞的同義詞。

retreat

n / v. 撤退，退卻

【例】All the villagers kept themselves in readiness to retreat as soon as the enemy came.所有的村民都時刻準備著等敵人一來就撤退。

【同義替換】retire, withdraw

【真題】It was inevitable that this primacy should have narrowed as other countries grew richer. Just as inevitably, the retreat from predominance proved painful.

隨著其他國家日益強盛，美國的這一優勢地位逐漸下降是不可避免的。從優勢地位上退出的痛苦也同樣是不可避免的。

rough

a. 粗糙的;粗略的，大致的;粗野的，粗暴的

【例】Although these figures are only rough estimates, they do strikingly underline the seriousness of the problem.雖然這些數字是比較粗略的估計，但在很大程度上表面了這個問題的嚴重性。

【同義替換】unsmooth; approximate

【派生】roughly ad.粗略地，大約;粗暴地，粗糙地，粗魯地

approximately ad.近似地，大約

【真題】What they found, in attempting to model thought, is that the human brain’s roughly one hundred billion nerve cells are much more talented—and human perception far more complicated—than preciously imagined.

在試圖建造思維模型的過程中，研究人員發現，人類大腦中的近1000億個神經細胞要比以前想象的更聰明，人類的感覺器官也比以前想象的更復雜。

paradox

n. 似是而非的話，自相矛盾的話，反論

【例】The share of information and the security of information are the most paradox in computer network.計算機網絡的信息共享與信息安全是網絡上最大的悖論。

【構詞】para-(前綴=contrary 相反)+dox(=opinion 觀點)→自相矛盾的觀點

【同義替換】inconsistency, contradiction

【派生】paradoxical a.矛盾的 paradoxically ad.矛盾地

【真題】His argument is that the unusual history of these people has subjected them to unique evolutionary pressures that have resulted in this paradoxical state of affairs.

他的觀點是，這些人非同尋常的經歷使他們遭受了其他人所沒有經受過的進化壓力，而這些壓力最終導致了這種矛盾的狀況。
