originate

v.(in, from)起源，發生;首創，創造

【例】All theories originate from practice and in turn serve practice.任何理論都來源于實踐，反過來也為實踐服務。

【構詞】origin(起源)+-ate(動詞后綴)→起源，首創

【同義替換】initiate, begin, create

【派生】originator n.創始人，創作者，發明者

【真題】What the researchers found was at once both amazing and expected: the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Cosmic Background Explorer satellite——Cobe——had discovered landmark evidence that the universe did in fact begin with the primeval explosion that has become known as the Big Bang( the theory that the universe originated in an explosion from a single mass of energy).

【構詞】super-(超，上)+vis(看)+e→在上面看著→監督，管理

【同義替換】monitor, control, superintend

【派生】supervision n.管理，監督 supervisee n.被監督者 supervisor n.監督者

【真題】In 1924 America’s National Research Council sent two engineers to supervise a series of industrial experiments at a large telephone-parts factory called the Hawthorne Plant near Chicago.

【例】Statistical data pertaining to state secrets must be kept confidential.屬于國家機密的統計資料，必須保密。

【真題】Super-high scores like Vos Savant’s are no longer possible, because scoring is now based on a statistical population distribution among age peers, rather than simply dividing the mental age by the chronological age and multiplying by 100.

Vos Savant測得的智力高分再也不可能出現了，因為評分標準是根據同齡中人口分布統計數據而制定，而不是簡單根據時間年齡除以智力年齡，再乘以100。
