Yao Xinzhong, a native of Zhumadian City, Henan Province, was born on the 9th, February, 1957. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Renmin University of China in 1982 with a BA in Philosophy, and was awarded with a PhD in Ethics in 1988. Sponsored by a British Council Scholarship, he went to University of Kent, England for postdoctoral research in 1990. He started teaching at University of Wales, Cardiff and Lampeter from 1991 when he was appointed as research fellow in religious ethics. He was then appointed Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, and Professor in Wales before going to University of Oxford as a senior research fellow (Ian Ramsey Centre). He accepted the appointment of Professor of Religion and Ethics and the Director of King’s China Institute, King’s College London in 2008. He has been an adjunct professor and OhD supervisor at Renmin University since 1999.
